About DaphneDaphne has been writing poems and short stories since her own childhood. Her love of writing and sharing her stories resonates through her personality and prose. Her experience as a mother and police officer (retired) has influenced her to tell stories that hold positive messages about important life issues and challenges of which children can relate to and even learn from.
Daphne spent almost 30 years in law enforcement with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Her husband, who is also a retired police officer, suffers from severe complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Daphne has seen first hand the effects that PTSD can have on a family. One thing in particular that she witnessed was the impact it had on their children. Both Daphne and her husband are firm believers in the importance of peer support and early intervention, especially for all those who lives have been affected by PTSD. With the right treatment, they believe that situations can improve, and hope they can help other families with Daphne’s second book, It’s Not 'Cuz of Me. |

This story is for those children who have PTSD in their family, giving voice to their experiences, emotions and worries. This book should help give a child a sense of understanding and empowerment that PTSD is “nobody’s fault,” and “it’s not cuz of me.”

It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is one of the most exceptional, poignant and astounding children books I have ever had the pleasure of reading with my children. Red Headed Book Lover Blog Read the full review
"It's not cuz of me" by Daphne L. McFee is a well-written and touching book, which tackles a very important topic. Children of parents diagnosed with PTSD need access to help and support, to allow them to discuss their feelings and reactions to the changes at home. This book, which validates and normalizes the difficult feelings these children may be experiencing, can initiate this very important conversation. Bravo Daphne! Dr. Lyzon Babchishin, Ph.D., C.Psych. The Ottawa Anxiety and Trauma Clinic.
First and foremost, it's a very powerful piece of writing. The narrative projected in the voice of the child rings with authenticity, no doubt because Daphne has "lived" the experience not only as an adult partner, but as a mother through the eyes of her children. Any youngster affected by a family member with PTSD would benefit from exposure to the book. For that matter I believe any parent dealing with the tough circumstances of an afflicted partner would personally gain from the thoughts and insights found in Daphne's words. In the aftermath of the storm that is PTSD, the damage can be wide spread and as you know, the lessons are transferable. Please accept my thanks to you both, especially Daphne for her hard work on something that is very much needed. CW, It's Not 'Cuz of Me
Fantastic children's book! The stories are adorable and the pictures are very visually appealing. I would highly recommend to a family with young children looking for bedtime stories. - Melanie, Amazon Customer, LeMay Valley Friends
This story is extremely heartfelt. It's generalized to fit in any household who's families have a someone going through PTSD. Perfect for children who are only just learning about mental illness and help them understand that it is in fact "not because of them". Would highly recommend! - Melanie, Amazon Customer, It's Not 'Cuz of Me
After reading "It's Not 'Cuz of Me" my first thought was what an amazing book! It not only is written with an upbeat rhyme, it also has an important message! As a society we need to become more aware of the effects of PTSD. Daphne, in her book, not only informs society of the effects of someone suffering with PTSD, but she also has written the story in a very clear way for children to understand, as well as how it may affect someone they know. Daphne's book sends such a life-changing message, through beautiful written words and simple heart-warming pictures! I would recommend this book to anyone! Kim, Friesen Customer, It's Not 'Cuz of Me
